Crop Detector - Free plugin (Free and Studio)

This simple plugin is made for easily detecting "bad cropping", i.e. when an image is not filling the frame, by changing background color and flicker if needed.

By default the background is black in DaVinci Resolve and a bad crop can be hard to spot during editing (while you will only see the bad crop once it is published).

Click the download icon on the right hand side in the top row.

How to use

Drag and drop the CropDetector generator plugin to video Track1

Make the CropDetector as long as required (entire project potentially)

Add your clips on the tracks above as usual.

The Controls

Select the CropDetector "clip", open the Inspector on Generator.

Flicker On Turns on flicker for the colored background to make it easier to detect (depending on footage).

Flicker Off Turns off flicker for the background. 

Flicker is turned off by default.

Flicker Speed changes the flicker frequency for optimum detection.

Color Changes the background color for easy detection depending on footage. Default color is white.

Download and install

1) Download the plugin from Google Drive here.The download will open in a new window and the file can be downloaded to, and installed from, any location.
The plugin is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS.

2) Double click the downloaded drfx file and select Install. The plugin is automatically copied to the correct directory and the downloaded file is no longer required. 

3) CropDetector is now available under Fusion Generators in the edit tab in the Effects pane. 
(A re-start of DaVinci Resolve can be required for the plugin to show up.)
